How to get started?

• Using GitHub Copilot Chat in your JetBrains IDE
• If you were already using Private Beta – No further action is required. You can continue using the chat feature as usual.

After recent feedback, the chat window seems broken, the first few questions are answered, but then the later questions simply disappear as if sent to the bot, but no change (scrolling window with answer) is seen, so for each question, one has to start a new chat. Apart from that overall very convenient and useful to have the copilot right there, next to the work code

In the new update, I've been having issues with the chat. The first question gets answered, but the following one stops working; it doesn't respond at all, nor does the new question appear. Additionally, if I work with two IntelliJ windows, after the first question, when I click to send, the chat from the other window I have open pops up.

Update for Linux: plugin version 1.5.0.5148 works on Ubuntu (IntelliJ IDEA 2023.3.4).

Can't confirm issues mentioned by others above: Copilot Chat works for me as expected (for multiple consecutive questions, that is).

@Akash1134 even in the latest version (1.5.0.5148) there is no way to make Copilot repeat an attempt (no 'try again' button) when questions fail, and they do fail really often. I frequently get 40-60% of a response, then "Oops, no response has returned" error (or no response from the start).

And the workaround is not exactly convenient:

1. Scroll up until my question
2. Select it (using a mouse)
3. Copy
4. Delete the failed attempt (using a mouse)
5. Paste, Send
6. Another error? Go to 1.

Currently, the plugin neither automatically retries nor warns the user when it runs into a network issue ? When a network issue happens, including temporary hiccups, the plugin will simply show "Responding..." indefinitely on each and every question asked from that point until restarting the whole IDE. Cancelling reply or deleting current conversation won't resolve the issue.

They claim it uses GPT4, but when asked the same copilot chat says it uses GPT3 and isn't aware of GPT4 in IntelliJ. VSCode mentions about GPT-4

When using the /docs command, the reply will include the full function body. Can you consider just replying with the docstring and to skip the function itself. The function code is just a copy of what is in file, is irrelevant for the docstring and just adds noise to the answer.

When I use the command "vercel" in terminal I get this error:

That error is gone if I disable copilot or close webstorm.

hello I recently started using accessibility for coding in hands free mode (due to a problem on my arms).
this too is helping me a lot but I wanted to suggest one improvement, on the screen that we prompt a message, when the suggestion of code appears, the buttons for copying or pasting the content is always on top, it would make easier for me if these buttons were on bottom.
another thing that would help me is to have some shortcuts on the bottom, so I can click and go directly to the code, because the software that I'm using to help me on the commands, is not being able to scroll up/down the copilot screen, because cannot focus on this screen.

Haven't been able to use it for over 2 weeks, because it is not compatible with the 2024.2 EAPs. There have been multiple people post about this (including me) but no official response.

Completely unacceptable for a subscription product. I will be cancelling if this is not resolved soon, or repeats when the next EAP is out.

@Scott-G We need to do work on our side to get plugin work in EAPs. EAPs in nature are not the stable versions so the back and forth of work could be much higher. While we do want to support our plugin in EAPs, it is work that needs to go in our backlog and can take some time.

This is very disappointing, as pretty much all other plugin developers support the EAP versions - often though a dedicated EAP channel.

This is not a small issue, as a large proportion of developers use the Early Access Program (EAP) whenever it is available - which, at a guess, is around 80% of the product cycle.

This means I am left with 3 choices:

1. Abandon the EAP to continue using Co-Pilot.
2. Continue with the EAP, but only be able to use Co-Pilot for 20% of the time...on a PAID subscription!
3. Drop GitHub Co-Pilot altogether.

It shouldn't take almost 3 weeks (so far!) to increase the compatible version number. So, if this is going to be the norm, option 3 is the only viable choice.

Of course I am aware that there can be issues with the EAP, but they are usually fine and the benefits outweigh. They are also very quick at releasing fixes as there have already been 3 EAP builds for the 2024.2 (242.*) version... meanwhile, your devs have not even bumped the supported version number.

A couple of issues:

1. I cannot navigate using arrow keys within the chat text input field
2. It works for a time but ultimately ends up hanging forever, with two spinners: "No steps completed successfully" and "Collecting context".

I end up having to uninstall the plugin and reinstall it. I've also deleted all conversations and restart the IDE, but that doesn't help.

After an update to the plugin a couple of weeks ago, PhpStorm started popping up an "untrusted certificate" dialog asking to accept or reject some self-signed certificate. After some digging, I managed to find out that for whatever reason, from that version on, the plugin tries every 15 seconds to reach something at https://127.0.0.1:443, which in my case points either to my projects' development webservers (via Docker-Compose) or to Traefik (when using Warden). If I reject, the popup keeps coming back every 15 seconds; if I accept, it finally goes away and I can work again.

I think this is very undesired behaviour, since at first I though I had something malicious mess up my PhpStorm (the first time it happened, the project's certificate details were left as a literal "RickRoll easter-egg" by some other dev 😏).
Even after finding out that it's just the Copilot plugin and my local webserver, every time I open a "new" project and start the webserver, I have to again accept another untrusted certificate - my fear is that this becomes a habit, and in the future I mindlessly accept the certificate to a real malicious actor. Also, I don't like the idea of wasting processing time every 15 seconds for something useless.
