The default color for the time widget doesn't work for all backgrounds. I've been testing using a specific font color said to work for most images on the web. (255,69,0) and it's working.

There's other ways of making text pop over any image. This one, changing the color, seems clean. Perhaps try it and see if it'd work for everyone as a default color?

bottom of images seem to have the darkest colors and least amount of color transitions.

ultimately, adding a white border top left and black border bottom right of each character used would work for all background. what'd be cleaner is setting a black translucent background with round oval edges for the text to stand out no matter the background. even cleaner? have the text's properties depend on the image.
